Passion for Safe Tech
Decolonise AI is a social change initiative that specializes in the research and development of technologies and processes for auditing machine learning AI and other algorithm systems. The lab aims to improve the transparency of these systems and prevent the societal risks of human rights violations. I garner my expertise to serve public interests.
I hold a PhD in Production Technology and possess over 10 years of R&D experience. During my PhD, I utilized methodologies in applied statistics and machine learning to optimize advanced materials and manufacturing processes. I realized that even though AI experiments are suitable for engineering applications, they are not readily applicable to experiments on human subjects. The latter requires stakeholder oversight. My goal is to contribute to ethical algorithm system design that prevents adverse effects on humans especially those that lead to disparate treatment and impact.
My education in engineering and technology with a philosophy of science foundation, provides me with the knowledge to tackle the underlying algorithmic problems and to apply systems engineering solutions. Ask me what drives me to spend my time on this venture. As an immigrant and stakeholder who is susceptible to the harms caused by poor AI systems, I am obliged to participate in making the technology safe. I bring a different but innovative perspective that is often overlooked by AI communities mainly because they lack the top-level diversity required to develop technology systems beneficial for an heterogeneous population.
